I find myself as an artist-in-residency at the fantastic KHN Center for the Arts in Nebraska City, USA. With me there are 4 other artists - Bernadette Esposito, Ben Browne, Caroline Byrne and Jay Vilnai. I am working here on the second draft of my feature screenplay "Next time I die...(story of Boing)". I'm also experimenting with the medium format photography and just held my very first photography workshop among high school students of Nebraska. It was a lot of fun! Other news: my "Butterflies of Trip City" will play at the XIV Pure Dreams (Deboshirfilm) Festival in St.-Petersburg (Russia) in November between 10 and 15th. Website news: I've rearranged few photography pages and works and added new to "Elusive dreams" section. Hope you'll enjoy them.

Fantastic experience at the 22nd Kinotavr Film Festival! Shared the room with the Cannes FF short film winner of 2011, attended numerous activities and swam in Black Sea. Catch an article about the new era of short film-making and my interview in respectful Russian newspaper Moscow News (Московские новости) and it's online version here (in Russian) - http://www.mn.ru/culture/20110606/302278605.html Also we just wraped the shooting of my next short film entitled "The Last Mermaids", coproduced with Chris Luckhardt at Willowood Films. Above and below the water film was shot in Newmarket's hospital and by the picturesque shores of 1000 islands near Gananoque, followed by a relaxing camping trip with some cast and crew. Find out more about the film here

Russian version of Cannes Film Festival - 22nd Kinotavr, situated by the Black Sea has selected "Butterflies of Trip City" into its official competition. European premiere will happen June 5th in Sochi. Once again, I'll be there to present the film. 2 previous film festials - Rochester and Atlanta had successful screenings of the film. In photo news: my work was selected for the "Early Morning, After Dark" exhibition in Minneapolis and more work is selected for the 36th Paducah Photo exhibition and competition. I'm also very, very happy to announce that Kimmel Harding Nelson (KHN) Center for the Arts has awarded me a multi-disciplinary Residency (writing+photography)! I'll be working there on my feature-length script "Next time I die..." this coming autumn.
But for now - Spring of 2011, I love you!

    April 4, 2011
We're very happy to announce that two big festivals will screen "Butterflies of Trip City" this spring! On April 14th the world's oldest continuously held short film festival - 53rd Rochester International - will screen the film at the opening at 8 pm. I will be there to present the film. And one of only two-dozen Academy Award® qualifying festivals - 35th Atlanta Film Festival will screen the film in Official Competition section on May 2 @ 9.45 pm and May 3 @ 2pm, program "Other Worlds". And don't forget - April 26th is the night at Toronto Alternative Fashion Week, where, besides amazing outfits, you'll be able to check out my selected photo works from "Christabel" and "Mermaid" series. Yeeeeey!

    March 8, 2011
With the International Women's day came the news from Ontario Arts Council - I've received a grant towards my next film adventure: an underwater poetic parable "The Last Mermaids". The production is scheduled for the summer of 2011. In a meantime, some of my underwater photographs are on display at "Fashioning Photography" exhibition, Vermont Photo Space gallery in USA, and will be presented in April at Toronto Alternative Fashion week. Also, I've returned recently from the trip to France (where I've been at Clermont-Ferrand film festival) and Morocco. So please stay tuned for the photo updates from that trip.

I am now officially represented by one of the oldest galleries in Toronto - Moos Gallery. The gallery is celebrating it's 51 year in 2010. This is very exciting! The WorldWide Photography Gala Awards had notified me that I'm one of the finalists for Julia Margaret Cameron award in their nature section. My film "Butterflies of Trip City" has the last final stretch of color correction before it's completed and I'm conducting some underwater experiments as we speak, so I plan to show here some of the reslutls later. Thank you for your patience with my "photography" page updating. I've been trying to squeeze it between my 2 passions - filmmaking and photography.

    May 9, 2010
As a part of Contact photo festival I'm showcasing around 10 works at Ben Navaee Gallery May 10-28, 2010. Reception is on May 15, 3-4.30pm - 1111 Queen St E, Toronto, Canada. I responded to the topic of Pervasive Influence by portraying claustrophobia in the city due to the lack of nature. I'm slowly upgrading more pages on the website, including "films" section - it's now better and simplier. And my film "Butterflies of Trip City" will have its sound mix done within 7 days from now. More exciting news are coming later this month. Please hold your fingers crossed for me :-)

A bunch of bugs, regarding Russian version of this website are now fixed, thanks to my good friend Lovisa. She also told me how to create a proper photo page, so the new look in Photography section should be up soon. Please write me if you notice any other bugs on this website or if the links aren't working. Aparently, my computer was showing everything properly all this time, while in real life it was quite screwed up.
I am also currently in New York, working on my feature-length script and exploring the art world of the city. I aim to stay here till sometime in April of 2010. I'm open to meetings and feedback.

    Dec 21, 2009
Holidays are fast approaching and I'm rushing to conclude the remaining tasks of the year. Happy to announce that in the first 2 weeks of December my film "Jenny" played in 4 countries and 3 continents! Please look for details in the "films" section. I was both in LA and Moscow for the screenings, and that was fabulous! I'm also proudly finishing this year with the 10th photo exhibition, called "Blue" in Vermont.
And "Butterflies of Trip City" finally made it into post-production. These are some of the reasons of the updates you can find on my website on varions pages, but don't forget to check out new photos I've been uploading to Photography section, especially since this year was full of far-away trips for me. I'll meet 2010 in New York city and will do my best in finding joy and beauty through my work through out the next year. And thank you for reading/watching/following my endeavours! Happy holidays!

My short film "Jenny" will be screened twice in December, in Hollywood and in Rivers State, Nigeria. Two separate film festivals, Artivist and ION are aimed to raise social awareness and support activist work. I will present the film in Los Angeles with my star of the film, Jenny Kuvardina, on Dec. 3rd 2009 at the famous Egyptian Theatre at 9.15 pm. And right before that, at the end of November I aim to complete the last portion of shooting of my new film "Butterflies of Trip City". Today you can already enjoy the trailer of the film.

    Oct 16, 2009
Two new films about ugly dolls have been uploaded to the website - "Watching the Sun" and "1 wish". Now all the information regarding my films you can find in a section "films" with more detailed information condensed on a less amount of pages. I've also added "Exhibitions" history in Photography section. My other film, "Jenny" is selected by Artivist Film Festival, the festival that blends filmmaking with an activist work. The screening will commence sometime between 1 and 5 of December in Los Angeles, USA. In other news - I just came back from a month-long visit home, my dear Russia. So please expect some updates in a photo section soon.

    26.08.2009
Finally the photographs from magical French villages are uploaded to the website's "Bozouls" and "Black'n'white". Some of them are already succesfully hanging in Ben Navaee Gallery in Toronto. Exhibition will go for another two days, till Aug. 28. Yoga festival has just wrapped, and I'm busy working as a lighting technician again on various TV-series. This explains the lateness of the news. Wonderful plans are hanging in the air for autumn, so please stay tuned.

    18.07.2009
Principal photography of "Butterflies of Trip City" is completed. We still have one more autumn day to shoot the remaining part of the script. But I'm quite happy with the results and can't wait to start editing. I also just came back from my 10-day fabulous trip to France, so stay tuned for some updates in a photography section in the next few weeks. In August some of my photoraphs will be on display at Yoga Festival in Toronto.

    02.05.2009
I've uploaded new photographs from my European trip and created a new section "Mother Nature". I've also shortened my bio to main facts and relative statements. As I again accidentally deleted few news here I'll quickly recap what's been happening. I've got an Ontario Arts Council grant for my film "Butterflies of Trip City", the project that I want to make for a few years now. We are in prep at the moment and plan to shoot it this June. Although any additional funding and donations are truly appreciated and encouraged to cover the production costs, we are working hard to make this film possible. Other news: few of my works will be hanging during Yoga festival in August in Toronto.

    04.03.2009
My second group exhibition, this time called "Krakozjabra themes" opened in Gallery Gabrichidze in Brussels on February 28. I've got several prints on canvas there and flew to Europe for the opening. Besides Belgium I also visited London, Paris and Amsterdam. It became almost a spiritual journey, meeting new and old friends. Amongst these marvelous artists, filmmakers and designers I also met Andy Carling, an independent journalist, who expressed his interest in interviewing me. Here's the result of our conversation: http://www.andycarling.com/2009/03/nika-belianina-and-the-creature/

    08.02.2009
During the entire month of February the vibrant and artist-run coffee shop JetFuel (519 Parmilanet st, Toronto) is exhibiting more than 20 of my works on its walls. This is my first solo exhibition.

At the same time Gallery Gabrichidze in Brussel has a show "Coming together", where I also have some works. February 21 opens another group show at the same gallery, "Krakozjabra themes" with 5 more of my prints on canvas. I plan to attend the opening in Belgium.

    15.01.2009.
New section is added to Photography - "The Beginning". The series were created in late November, although its colours remind me of spring time. To me this is a representation of a new creation - so tender and vulnerable that it can dissapear or pass as a mirage. 2008 opened my eyes on my true passions, and these works helped me understand myself thorugh this new vision. I am also starting to make slideshows for the sake of simplicity of viewing the works. Please allow some time to complete the process. I also joined the group of creative minds at Rippled Thoughs.
